Two quick things that came up today that amused me:
First, there’s been an odd, not-great-but-not-terrible smell in a corner of the garden for a couple days that I’ve been struggling to place. Finally found the source today when I pulled out a clump of some misc volunteer plants; a stinkhorn, aka Phallus impudicus, which I always think of as the “sad dicks of the fungal world.” I thought this was a particularly good example of why I think of them that way.

Second, more charmingly (but perhaps less humorously), after ripping out some more things in the aforementioned garden bed, I found half a dozen itty bitty asparagus plants. Last year I threw a bunch of the berries from my established asparaguys into this bed, and I genuinely did not have very high hopes, but I’m very pleased to see these tiny friends fighting and succeeding. Tore out a bunch more stuff around them and wood-chipped around them, in hopes that I can give them a leg up over their rather abundant competition.

Alright, that’s all, be back in June!
